A bit of history.
Bees have existed for a very long time, for millions of years. The very first humans acted just like some wild animals: they stole honey from the bees to use it as food.
In antiquity wild bees were promoted to pets like a dog or a cat.
Especially the Greeks and the Romans kept many bees and used honey often and frequently.
They used it in their everyday diet and to sacrifice it to their gods.
Every medieval monastery had its own hives. Not only for honey, but also for wax, of which they made candles to be used in the church. Or in the library to have sufficient light to read.
Today bees are still important. They do not only provide us with delicious and nutritious honey, but also take care of the pollination of flowers, so that beautiful fruit can grow on the trees.
Honey therefore has had a long history, but is still very alive today.
